Now that we have worked through the two labs on the Structure of DNA, DNA Replication, Mutations, and Protein Synthesis, it is time to put together our lab reports.

Fleming Penicilin Assignment - 7th Grade

I thought it might be helpful to post this assignment on the blog.

You are working on your own or with a partner to work through Alexander Fleming's original scientific research paper where he showed that Penicillin could be used an an antibiotic.

As you work through the paper, you are trying to answer the following questions:
1. Problem - what question was he trying to answer?
2. Hypothesis - what was he trying to test?
3. Methods - what did he do to test his hypothesis?
4. Data - why did he collect the data he did?

Gummy Bear Lab

Here is the stuff you need to complete your write up of the gummy bear lab.

You will:

1) Create two graphs. One will be for Weight, the other for Volume. You will figure out the best way to set up the graphs. Try to think of the best way to display the data.

2) Write up your conclusions. For this, answer the questions on the sheet I gave you.

Visualizing Molecules Lab Reflection - Period 1

Here is the place to post your reflection on the Visualizing Molecules Lab.

For this reflection, you should answer the following questions:

1. What did I learn from this lab?

2. Was it better to work with models instead of just the chemical formulas? Why or why not?

We have spent the last week or so doing our first experiment. We did this to learn for ourselves how scientists work.

Now that you have completed this experiment, it is time to look back and think about what you have learned. Look over the following questions and then write a two to three-paragraph reflection that answers them. This is to be done on your own.

• What have you learned about how scientists work and the methods they follow?
• Why do you think this method would add to scientific knowledge?
• What would you do differently next time in terms of how your group performed your experiment?
