Body Systems Project Check In

Now that we are a few days into our Human Body Systems Project, I thought it might be a good time to check in.

I would like each group to post something about the system you are studying. Please post something here that teaches other people about your system.

You can also use this space to ask questions about systems other than the one you are studying.

I saw this on the NY Times website. It is a story about how middle school students in Bayonne New Jersey are trying to raise oysters in order to restore part of an ecosystem.

Adopt an Element Project - 7th Grade

As we discussed in class, we are learning about atoms and elements.
To help you get familiar with some elements, we are starting the "Adopt an Element" Project. For this project, you will look through some different versions of the periodic table of the elements (on line or in books). As you get familiar with some of the elements, pick one you'd like to adopt.

Once your made your choice, you will make a poster using a new tool called "Glogster." Here's the link:

We will ALL use the same account. The username is mrardito. The password is my last name. In the title of your Glog, put the element and your first name.

Have fun. Be creative. Learn cool things.

Setting Up Google Accounts - 8th Grade

We are going to use something called Google Docs to work on our Human Body Systems project (and others later on).

To use Google Docs, you need a school Google Account. Following the directions here to set yours up.

We have done our first project with Google Docs. I like using this tool because you can use Google Docs on any computer and because it is easier to work with others.

Please share about at least three of things. Your reflection should be 2 or 3 paragraphs long.

8th Grade Body Systems Project

For the next week or two, you will be focusing on one or two of the systems that make up the human body and help us to maintain homeostasis.

Please look over the description of the project (you will find it here). Then, make a list of your top three choices of body systems and why you want to study them.

Here is a link to the template you can use for your lab reports.

When you use it, please go to File> Save as New Copy. If you don't do this, you won't be able to edit it.

Gummy Bear Lab

Here is the stuff you need to complete your write up of the gummy bear lab.

You will:

1) Create two graphs. One will be for Weight, the other for Volume. You will figure out the best way to set up the graphs. Try to think of the best way to display the data.

2) Write up your conclusions. For this, answer the questions on the sheet I gave you.
