7th Grade - Questions for Our Australian Friends

As we discussed in class, many of you have questions about Australian holidays and customs.
Please post your questions here, and I will ask Mrs. Gow to have her student answer them for you.

I will also invite them to ask questions of you about American holidays and customs, which you will answer.

Do you celebrate Veterans Day (Armistice Day)?

Anonymous said...

No Jooe, We don't celebrate Armistice Day (what's that?) We do celbrate ANZAC day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.) on 25th April. More info here: http://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/anzac/
We usually have a minute's silence, speeches and a laying of the wreath at the flagpole at school. We also celebrate Rememberence Day on 11th November at 11 minutes past 11am.
Tell us about Armistice Day?
From George.

I have a question. Over there in Australia, do the trains use bells? I heard only America and Canada use bells on their locomotives. Just curious. Also, do you have steam engine tourist railroads over there?

You can probably tell that I love trains! :-D

Just curious, do you use AIM(instand messager)? If so, what is your username? If I find out I will send you a message and we can talk. :)

I think they celebrate Christmas, but not sure about halloween. Do you guys celebrate halloween? Is there anybody here from Australia that likes trains like me?

And about Armistice day. That is Veterans day George. Wait. Veterans day as in 4th of July? 4th of July is celebrating America's independence. There's the answer to your question George. If I'm correct, veterans day is Armistice day?

And by the way when I become the All Mighty Leader of the Universe (Just Kidding), I will make 11:11 11\11 a Universal holiday.

Hey Australian friends! Just wondering if it's true that you only have around 17 kids in your class. Just wondering if you have to switch classes everyday like us. Also, what time do you start and end school there? When's your first day of school and whens the last day of school?

From your new web friend,
Milky Milk

Well elimanningrox, we have a song about a red-back spider on the toilet seat which is about the old-fashioned drop dunnies (a hole in the ground with a box on top!). Those toilets don't flush at all! i think you've been watching too many "Simpsons" cartoons!

Hi Milky Milk,
We have 6 fifty minute periods a day, sometimes with a double for art or food or woodwork. We start at 9am with a 15 min form group called skills for living and then two periods. Then half hour for recess and 2 more periods. then one hour for lunch and last 2 periods which finish at 3.30pm YAY!
